What I Wore - Fur Coats and Old Lady Smell

Hello there!
I remember when I was a kid I wore fur coats (plural, there was more then one). I'm not talking about ones that actually fit me or ones that were faux fur, I am talking about giant, real fur, heavy, thrift shop coats that smelled like old lady. My mom let me pick out my own clothes from a very young age, which led to some weird questionable fashion choices on my part.

Now I have a few nice (faux) furs that fit properly, all still from the the thrift shop and all still kind of smell like old lady, most of my clothes smell like old lady it is just something that comes with thrifted vintage. As I was going through my coats, getting ready to put them away for the season the thought of my childhood fur coat love came to mind. I loved those things so much, I must have gone through 3 or 4 different ones before I was a teenager. All of them were pretty well the same: Brown and kind of stripped, that really rough fur that cheap old fur coats have, they all came down to my ankles if not a bit longer, I could honestly have fit five of me in anyone of them they were so big and they all made me sneeze my head of because they were dusty and real fur. This was before I realized I was allergic to everything, I guess being allergic to cats should have been a good indication I was also allergic to other random animal fur.

I was an odd child to say the very least, but I'm an odd adult too so I guess somethings never change. Looking back I realize I went through a lot of really strange fashions when I was a kid, and looking in my closet now I realize I've gone back to a lot of those fashions now. Which isn't a bad thing really, I liked really old styles when I was little, I just didn't have as good a taste at the time, now I can actually pick out dresses and fur coats that look nice on me, I can wear the highly impractical shoes, I can wear hats that don't fall over my eyes (for the most part). I'm really thankful that mom let me wear pretty much anything my odd little self wanted because that really helped me shape the weird mishmash of styles I have today. My closet is filled with everything from Victorian inspired pieces, to vintage styles, to gothic, to modern and everything in between, It might look a little crazy to someone else, but it is totally 100% me. I'm an oddball and I love it!

These pictures are almost a month old and really have nothing to do with this post, but I took them and wanted to use them for something. I have definitely fallen out of practice with taking outfit photos, I think it's been nearly 2 years since I took any! So hopefully I can get back in the swing of it.
And yes, that is a babushka. I've had it since I was like 10, like I said most of my oddness has carried into my adult years. Oh well it looks cute!
Anyways that's enough of me rambling! Have a great day!

What I Wore - Freely Floral Tiny Prints Collaboration

Hi everyone!
I am excited to be back in the blogging world after a very long unintentional hiatus. And I am even more excited to share this really fun collaboration post with you all!
In December I was contacted by a lovely member of the Tiny Prints team and asked to do an outfit post inspired by one of there many cards or labels. I searched through the site for hours trying to find the perfect one and i found it! So here we go!

The second I saw this one it reminded me of this dress, which is one of my favorites!

Dress - Thrifted - Vintage
Shirt - Thrifted - Magazine
Tights - Walmart
Shoes - Marden's - Piper & Blue
Necklace - Claire's
Belt - Yard Sale
Headband - Walmart
Gloves - Claire's

I really wanted to match a piece with pink and white poka dots with this, but I just didn't have anything like that, so i went with this black shirt, I felt like it really made the colors in the dress pop, and gave it a slightly edgier look. I have also totally fallen in love with white tights! I love how they look on, I had major doubts about them when i first got this pair but now I'm hooked!
I loved looking through all of Tiny Prints wonderful stock. If I ever need invitations or labels or anything of the sort I will definitely go there to find them! They have so many styles and themes and the website is so nice and easy to search through! I always had thought that Tiny Prints was just for baby and kids things, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was aimed at other things and age groups too!
I'm going to try to get back in the swing of blogging, but my internet is still pretty sketchy so we'll see how it works out. But I have some post ideas swirling around in my head so I hope I can do them soon!
Thank you to the folks at Tiny Prints for giving my this fun opportunity!
Have a great day everyone and stay warm!

What I Wore - Wise Owl

Hi everyone!
I have been so bad about blogging lately that it's not even funny. These photos are from like a month ago! I can't believe I never posted them because I love this outfit so much.
The last week or so it has been bitterly cold and we got our first real storm of the year and they are predicting more for us all week, it's actually snowing right now.
This is the time of year where my electricity and internet start to go out rather often do to the snow and ice, a couple of days with out internet is awful when you're stuck at home in a blizzard. But that's just winter in Maine for you, brutal in all ways possible.

Dress, Yard Sale, Vintage, 2.50$
Boots, Thrifted, Vintage, London Fog, 1$
Socks Kmart, 1$
Necklace, Estate Sale, Vintage, 1$

I love this dress! I'm normally not big into maxi dresses, but this one is just so perfect, Plus it is nice and warm so it can actually be worn in cool weather. I was lucky and snagged another dress very similar to this one at the thrift shop, it's a different print and slightly lighter fabric, but it fit's just as perfectly as this one.
I got all my Christmas shopping done, now all I need to do is wrap it. Which I honestly LOVE wrapping gifts. Everyone in my family usually has me do their wrapping for them, I just love it. Anyone who has ever ordered from my ETSY SHOP knows that I even wrap my orders on there like gifts for the most part, pretty tissue paper and a hand written card. Everyone who watches me pack my Etsy orders laughs and asks why I bother and I always say "because I'd like it if I got this in the mail" and i have gotten nothing but good reviews on my wrapping.
I can't believe that it's almost the new year! New years will mark one year since I started this blog and I am so excited! I'm trying to think of a special post to mark the anniversary/new year. If you have an idea make sure to leave a comment!
Have a wonderful day!

Buttons!

Heylo
A couple of weekends ago I went to a church sale and I got a tin that was chock full of wonderful buttons! a mix of vintage and modern and even some antique ones! There are seriously hundreds of them. When I dumped the tin out to start sorting them I was shocked at the vast array. And the best part? The whole lot of them was only a dollar!
I can't wait to start using them on projects! Anyways here are some photos of when I first dumped the tin out.

Have a wonderful day!

What I Wore - The Rut

Hello out there
I have been neglecting everything online terribly, and I am sorry for not being in the blogpsphere much lately, but I am going to make an effort to keep up better. I have truly just been stuck in a rut!
I've worn a ton of great outfits that I really wanted to share but I just never got around to taking the photos.
But here is an outfit I did take photos of.

Shirt, Marden's, Jo Boxer, ???
Skirt, Thrifted, Vintage, 1$
Stockings, ????
Shoes, Marden's, Piper & Blue, 2$
Necklace, Hot Topic, 5$
belt,??

Okay first off I would like to point out that my lip stick is not black its a very nice deep plum color, and I love it. I've yet to try black lip stick, but I do kind of want to.
I love this skirt! I wore a few variations of this outfit through out the past couple of weeks and I have loved everyone. This skirt is just the perfect fit, and its such a nice wool skirt, it isn't even itchy, which is a huge plus.
I'm still batting back and forth rather I like my hair like this or not, some days I just love it, others I miss being able to pull my hair back. But I guess that is the nature of most people with their hair.
I really am going to try my best to pull myself out of this blogging rut. I just need to get my emotions and life in check but that shouldn't take much work I can tell I'm almost out of my slump.
Well anyways I hope you all have a grand day!

What to Wear - To a Baby Shower

Hello out there.
Here we are with another week of What to Wear, this time we're showing what we would wear to a baby shower. I have honestly never been to a baby shower, and I have no idea what people wear to them.
I took these photos when we were having a rain shower, so I figured that it was appropriate.

Dress, Yard Sale, Vintage, 1$
Shoes, Thrifted, 50 cents
Locket, Thrifted, Vintage, 50 cents
Assorted bracelets, Thrifted/Yard Sale, All Vintage.

I love this dress, it was one of the first vintage dresses I ever got. It doesn't get worn half as much as it should. You can't tell in these photos, But there is actually a frog and a lily pad under the flowers. I love that quirky detail, and if I wore this to a baby shower I would for sure bring a frog themed gift. The label on the inside says this dress is from Hawaii, which I think is pretty awesome.
These are also the last photos of me with long hair, I took the plunge a few days ago and had my hair cut short, into an angled bob sort of thing. I really like it and can't wait to share photos!
Our poor little What to Wear link up has lost a lot of steam lately, and I just want to remind you that if you want to share the outfit you would wear to a baby shower head over to Nicole's blog Gypsy in Jasper and add your link to our link up. On the 19th you can join our link up and show us what you wear to a bookstore! Don't forget to show the other ladies in the link up some love!
When I first became a part of this link up there were over 10 people who would usually link up, but over the last few months it has slowly gotten less and less. Last time there were only four of us! I'm sad to see the link up shrink, but I'm hoping that it will grow again!
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

What I Wore - Put Another X on the Calendar. Summer's on its Deathbed

Hi everybody,
It isn't even September yet, but boy oh boy does it feel like fall is sinking in up here in Maine! I mean we always have wacky seasons here anyway and it's been said many times that Maine only has two seasons: Winter and the 4th of July. I know people who live in other places can't really understand that, but if you spent a year here you would quickly learn what i mean.
We get about 3 months of nice weather here a year, June, July and August. September is a marginal month it can go either way but usually it rains for a good chunk of it (fingers crossed that it's nice for Pirate Days). By the end of October we usually have had at least a dusting of snow, and it's usually freezing. And by Thanksgiving we typically live in a full blown winter wonderland. Come April it's iffy if the snow will be gone yet, there has been a snow storm on my birthday (April 2nd) almost every year. This last year was a fluke and the second half of April was really nice. May, May's another iffy month, and it's hard to tell exactly what the weather will do for it. But yes it is true that Maine really only has two seasons.
This post was not meant to be a rant about Maine weather, so anyways onto outfit photos!

Shirt, Burlington Coat Factory, Derek heart, 5$ or 6$
Jeans, Thrifted, Fragile, 1$
Shoes, Marden's, Piper & Blue, 2$??
Locket, Thrifted, Vintage, 50 cents
Necklace, Label Shopper, 2$

You might notice the backgrounds a bit different from the last time I took photos on this wall in the living room. We moved the dresser and put this chest there instead. This chest has been around my whole life, it came out of the house my mom was born in. We've always called in "the owl chest" because the hardware has owls on it. It's seen better days, but it is still one of my favorite pieces of furniture in our house.
These are probably the best jeans I have ever thrifted, they fit perfectly. I have trouble finding jeans that sit just right for me because I am very high waisted. Being high waisted gives me a nice hourglass curve, but makes finding pants a bit tricky.
I love lockets, and my collection of them is slowly growing. I'd really like to get one of the really elaborate steampunk kind of style ones, or a fancy antique one, but  have a feeling I'll be on that hunt for awhile. Some day though. Most of my lockets don't have pictures or anything in them, yet that is.
Well anyways I'm rambling so I'm going to go. I may or may not be going away for a couple of days this weekend, those plans are still up in the air, we shall see.
Happy Friday everyone! I hope all of my American friends enjoy the long weekend!
Lexi

P.S. Here is the song that the tittle of my post comes from

What to Wear- To a Music Festival

Ello
Here we are again with some more what to wear fun! Time is just going way to fast, it seems like I just took  last times what to wear photos!

Shirt, Marden's, Blue Asphalt,??
Jeans, Walmart, NoBo, 3$ (?)
Belt, Thrifted, Vintage, 50 cents
Necklace, Thrifted, ?

It was pretty cool out when I took these photos so I couldn't wear the outfit I had planed out before hand. So I figured I'd channel my inner hippie and go for a more vintage vibe. In reality if I ever get to go to a music festival or concert it will be something like Warped Tour and I'll probably wear shorts and and All Time Low shirt. It amazes me that I love music the amount I do and have never had the chance to go and see a concert, some day I guess. I mean my dream show would have been Jefferson Airplane, or The Mamas and the Papas, or the Beatles. But that's my old side talking, modern day I'd be thrilled to see Marianas Trench, All Time Low, or Panic! at the Disco. Yes I have rather lame modern music taste.
I never really wear these jeans, they are one of my very favorite pairs, but they are a bit to long for me and they can't really be taken up. So I need to get more motivated to wear heels out side of the house so i can wear my stuff like this more!
The belt is one of my favorite vintage scores, I totally love it and it just seems so 1960s. I don't think it is from the 60s, but it has that vibe to it.
Anyways I'm half asleep still so I'm going to go. Don't forget to check out Nicole's blog Gypsy in Jasper to see the ladies in our link up, or join in with our link up fashion fun! Next time on September 5th when we share what we'd where to a baby shower...Uhm I've never been to a baby shower, so I will probably have some issues figuring out a good outfit. I wonder if bring an umbrella to a baby shower is wrong, just kidding. have a great day!
