What I Wore - Fur Coats and Old Lady Smell

Hello there!
I remember when I was a kid I wore fur coats (plural, there was more then one). I'm not talking about ones that actually fit me or ones that were faux fur, I am talking about giant, real fur, heavy, thrift shop coats that smelled like old lady. My mom let me pick out my own clothes from a very young age, which led to some weird questionable fashion choices on my part.

 Now I have a few nice (faux) furs that fit properly, all still from the the thrift shop and all still kind of smell like old lady, most of my clothes smell like old lady it is just something that comes with thrifted vintage. As I was going through my coats, getting ready to put them away for the season the thought of my childhood fur coat love came to mind. I loved those things so much, I must have gone through 3 or 4 different ones before I was a teenager. All of them were pretty well the same: Brown and kind of stripped, that really rough fur that cheap old fur coats have, they all came down to my ankles if not a bit longer, I could honestly have fit five of me in anyone of them they were so big and they all made me sneeze my head of because they were dusty and real fur. This was before I realized I was allergic to everything, I guess being allergic to cats should have been a good indication I was also allergic to other random animal fur.

I was an odd child to say the very least, but I'm an odd adult too so I guess somethings never change. Looking back I realize I went through a lot of really strange fashions when I was a kid, and looking in my closet now I realize I've gone back to a lot of those fashions now. Which isn't a bad thing really, I liked really old styles when I was little, I just didn't have as good a taste at the time, now I can actually pick out dresses and fur coats that look nice on me, I can wear the highly impractical shoes, I can wear hats that don't fall over my eyes (for the most part). I'm really thankful that mom let me wear pretty much anything my odd little self wanted because that really helped me shape the weird mishmash of styles I have today. My closet is filled with everything from Victorian inspired pieces, to vintage styles, to gothic, to modern and everything in between, It might look a little crazy to someone else, but it is totally 100% me. I'm an oddball and I love it!

These pictures are almost a month old and really have nothing to do with this post, but I took them and wanted to use them for something. I have definitely fallen out of practice with taking outfit photos, I think it's been nearly 2 years since I took any! So hopefully I can get back in the swing of it.
And yes, that is a babushka. I've had it since I was like 10, like I said most of my oddness has carried into my adult years. Oh well it looks cute!

What to Wear - Pop of Color *Fail*

Hi everyone!

Here we are for another week of What to Wear. I have to say I failed on the Pop of color prompt. When I took these photos I thought this outfit was a much bigger pop but looking back I realized it wasn't, but I didn't have time to take new photos I figured I'd post it anyways!

Even though this isn't the pop of color I thought it was I really like this outfit. I like being able to channel my inner child into a slightly more adult style. Plus I mean the fact that I have a hair bow that matches makes it so much better!

We've been getting a storm every other day it seems, which is causing rather a lot of cabin fever on my part. I seriously cannot wait for spring! I miss having bare legs and a warm breeze. But I guess I'll live. How are all of you holding up this winter?

What I Wore - Winter Flowers

Hi out there!

I know I keep saying I'm going to blog more and get back in the swing of things, but for some reason I just never seem to stick with it. I really am working on getting more of a scheduled going.

These photos are a little bit old, but I really love the outfit! I don't really wear that many dresses in winter, But awhile back when I took these we were having a little bit of a heat wave, it was 40 degrees (F) for three days in a row! So I got to enjoy wearing slightly lighter clothes for a few days.

I am head over heals in love with this dress! I know I say that about ever dress I ever wear but it's always true. I just love my dresses! I feel 100% myself when I'm wearing a dress, any self consciousness fades away. In the last couple of years I've started wearing dresses much much more often and it has truly helped me get a little more confident. 

Lately I've really been enjoying mixing styles, I really love giving girly pieces like this dress a little bit of edge, I think it just makes the look a little bit more interesting. 

Well I have a bunch of projects I should really get done today, so I better scoot.

What I Wore - Freely Floral Tiny Prints Collaboration

I am excited to be back in the blogging world after a very long unintentional hiatus. And I am even more excited to share this really fun collaboration post with you all! 

In December I was contacted by a lovely member of the Tiny Prints team and asked to do an outfit post inspired by one of there many cards or labels. I searched through the site for hours trying to find the perfect one and i found it! So here we go!

I really wanted to match a piece with pink and white poka dots with this, but I just didn't have anything like that, so i went with this black shirt, I felt like it really made the colors in the dress pop, and gave it a slightly edgier look. I have also totally fallen in love with white tights! I love how they look on, I had major doubts about them when i first got this pair but now I'm hooked!

I loved looking through all of Tiny Prints wonderful stock. If I ever need invitations or labels or anything of the sort I will definitely go there to find them! They have so many styles and themes and the website is so nice and easy to search through! I always had thought that Tiny Prints was just for baby and kids things, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was aimed at other things and age groups too!

I'm going to try to get back in the swing of blogging, but my internet is still pretty sketchy so we'll see how it works out. But I have some post ideas swirling around in my head so I hope I can do them soon!

What I Wore - Wise Owl

Hi everyone!

I have been so bad about blogging lately that it's not even funny. These photos are from like a month ago! I can't believe I never posted them because I love this outfit so much. 

The last week or so it has been bitterly cold and we got our first real storm of the year and they are predicting more for us all week, it's actually snowing right now. 

This is the time of year where my electricity and internet start to go out rather often do to the snow and ice, a couple of days with out internet is awful when you're stuck at home in a blizzard. But that's just winter in Maine for you, brutal in all ways possible.

I love this dress! I'm normally not big into maxi dresses, but this one is just so perfect, Plus it is nice and warm so it can actually be worn in cool weather. I was lucky and snagged another dress very similar to this one at the thrift shop, it's a different print and slightly lighter fabric, but it fit's just as perfectly as this one. 

I got all my Christmas shopping done, now all I need to do is wrap it. Which I honestly LOVE wrapping gifts. Everyone in my family usually has me do their wrapping for them, I just love it. Anyone who has ever ordered from my ETSY SHOP knows that I even wrap my orders on there like gifts for the most part, pretty tissue paper and a hand written card. Everyone who watches me pack my Etsy orders laughs and asks why I bother and I always say "because I'd like it if I got this in the mail" and i have gotten nothing but good reviews on my wrapping. 

I can't believe that it's almost the new year! New years will mark one year since I started this blog and I am so excited! I'm trying to think of a special post to mark the anniversary/new year. If you have an idea make sure to leave a comment!

What to Wear - Holiday Spirit

Hello!

Here is another week of what to wear, this time we're showing off our holiday spirit. I have to say I thought about putting a white sheet over my head and being the ghost of Christmas past, because you know that would have been corny and great but I tried to be a bit more Christmasy. And then when I realized my lighting in these photos was way off, I decided to over edit them and call it good. And then I got bored and took some liberties with the What to Wear banner, I hope no one minds, and if you want to use it for your own holiday spirit what to wear feel free. I wore this outfit when I was decorating the tree, so I figured it was perfect for Christmas spirit. 

I still have yet to get any Christmas shopping done, but I'm hoping to get it all done Monday, when we make the two hour trek to Bangor, which is the closest mall, Kmart, Target, and the like. It's so ridiculous to drive 2 hours just to get to decent shopping. I mean we have to drive half an hour just to get to a Walmart and a grocery store, it honestly sucks being so far removed from civilization.

What to Wear - Well Thrifting

Hi! And happy Thanksgiving to my American readers!

Here goes another round of What to Wear, This week we're showing off what we wear thrifting! I'm an avid thrifter so i was excited to put this together. The old ladies that run the thrift shop I frequent have seen me in an array of outfits. From the blah I've worn this outfit 3 days in a row and I'm to lazy to pick out something else outfits to the over the top crazy outfits. Usually it's the over the top crazy ones I wear, because I always get compliments instead of glares. Thrift shops are the one place people don't look at me like I'm a nutcase, so I tend to dress boldly. Anyways I thought it was only appropriate to wear two of my resent favorite thrifted find.

This sweater, oh my gosh! I am in love with this thing! I have ALWAYS had a thing for "hideous" sweaters, the first piece of clothing I ever picked out myself at age 2 or 3 was a hideous vintage sweater and since then I've never stopped loving them. I found this one about a month ago and i have already worn it way to many times. It's just perfect.

When i first got these boots I wasn't sure about the, they looked awesome and they fit but they didn't feel very comfortable, then when i was relacing them I noticed that some one had put a really thick weirdly shaped insole in them. Once I took that out they fit perfectly and are so comfy. My favorite part is they actually have tread on them. I find so many winter boots that have slippery flat bottoms with just no grip, which anyone who lives in a snowy place knows you're likely to break your neck if you wear boots like that. And thank you to everyone who has grabbed my BLOG BUTTON. And thank you to everyone who viewed my SURPRISE BALL POST I have been totally shocked at the interest in it! It has gotten over 700 views! Which is a big deal to me since I usually only get 20ish views on a post. So thank you so much to all of you! I am thankful for every single person who views and reads my blog.

What I Wore - Starry Starry Night

Oh my gosh I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since my last post! Not to mention these photos are over 2 weeks old! I honestly thought I posted them, but better late then never right?
This time of year makes me feel vastly unproductive. Even though offline I've been very productive and have gotten a lot of projects done. In the virtual world everything has slipped, but I'm going to try. I'm thinking about printing off a blogging calendar and scheduling myself that way. I always do much better if I have lists or written down schedules.

I really liked how this outfit looked. I'm still pretty new to the world of layering dresses, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Though wearing any dresses even with a ton of layers is starting to get totally impractical, as the Maine cold is setting in for the season. I wish I was one of those girls who could handle wear skirts and dresses in winter but I just can't. I am a cold wimp.  But I am going to try and wear dresses as much as I can. I've been investing in some really good thicker dresses and skirts, like this one that's actually a nice quilted fabric.  Wish me luck!

So it's What to Wear time again and we're showing off our Halloween costumes. I love Halloween it is probably my favorite holiday. I love dressing up, I honestly have no plans other then watching silly movies and eating to much junk food. We don't get trick or treaters at our house, but oh well. 

I threw this costume together honestly. I had planned to dress up as Wednesday Addams but I didn't take up the dress in time. I wore almost this outfit one day and I got told I looked like a doll so I decided just to go with that and play it up. 

So if you have a music box start that up now, because I feel like creepy dolls and music boxes go together.

So I basically did an awful job on the make up and decided to over edit the photos, but hey I really like dressing up as a doll, it was fun!

Oh and a side note, I finally fixed my comments so that anyone can comment, because I have had at least 3 people tell me they couldn't comment after it updated itself to Google+, so I finally got around to fixing that. I am a horrible blogger when it comes to fixing stuff like that!

Oh and I tried pumpkin eggnog for the first time yesterday and oh my gosh! It's amazing! It taste like someone put a pumpkin pie in a blender with eggnog, I highly suggest finding some to help you celebrate!
